Our Work

PKI supports Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking immigrant and refugee women, children, and LGBTQ+ communities through trauma-informed mental health care, economic empowerment, language access, civic education, and inclusive Jewish life. Together, these programs foster resilience, belonging, and long-term integration into Israeli society.

Focus Areas

Emotional and Mental Health Support

PKI provides trauma-informed emotional and mental health programming in Russian for women and children who have immigrated to Israel from Ukraine and Russia. Many of these families fled the war in Ukraine and are now facing renewed trauma amid ongoing conflict in Israel. PKI leaders and professional consultants offer tools and support to help women care for their own well-being and maintain stability and safety for their families.

Sustainable Employment

PKI’s sustainable employment initiative supports the economic integration of Russian-speaking immigrant and refugee women. Informed by a nationwide study conducted with researcher Assia Istoshina, the program addresses barriers such as language gaps, unrecognized professional credentials, and displacement-related trauma. Through Russian-language workshops, career development tools, and ongoing support, participants build both financial independence and emotional resilience.

Financial Literacy Training

PKI offers practical financial literacy training that equips women with essential knowledge about navigating Israel’s banking and credit systems. Topics include rent and loan payments, understanding pay stubs and pensions, budget management, and accessing benefits—helping participants gain confidence and stability in their daily lives.

Hebrew Language Programs (Ulpan)

While government-funded Ulpan programs are critical for new immigrants, long wait times often delay access. PKI fills this gap by offering Hebrew language courses that help participants adapt more quickly and comfortably to life in Israel.

Support for Russian-Speaking LGBTQ+ Immigrants and Refugees

PKI provides comprehensive, culturally responsive support for Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ immigrants and refugees. Services include legal advocacy, mental health support, Hebrew language courses, financial literacy training, cultural and Jewish engagement, emergency assistance, and community-building programs. By addressing language barriers, social isolation, bureaucratic challenges, and discrimination, PKI ensures this marginalized community has access to essential resources, legal rights, and safe spaces.

State and Religion

PKI’s civic education program empowers Russian-speaking women and LGBTQ+ communities to navigate Israel’s complex state-religion landscape. Through workshops and leadership training, participants learn about political platforms, civil rights, Jewish pluralism, and options for civil marriage and divorce, while gaining tools to advocate for a more inclusive and democratic society.

Jewish Life and Community

In times of crisis, Jewish tradition, learning, and community offer strength and resilience. PKI hosts large-scale Jewish holiday celebrations and learning opportunities, bringing together hundreds of women to connect, reflect, and build meaningful community.

Cultural Integration

PKI organizes tours of major academic and cultural institutions across Israel, helping new immigrants and refugees deepen their understanding of Israeli society. These experiences foster a sense of belonging, shared identity, and community connection.
